Made in Yorkshire — Designed Together

We work with chefs, bakers, and hospitality teams to design tableware that’s handmade, functional, and tailored to their space. Every piece is thrown on the wheel, glazed by hand, and built to suit the rhythms of a busy kitchen.

Our micro studio shop on Scarcroft Road is a home for more than our own ceramics. Inside, you’ll find a gallery of rotating artists, workshops in clay and craft, and a slow craft coffee bar serving drinks in our handmade cups. A space to learn, create, and connect.

Our Story

— a team of two: Zak and Lydia.
Together, we handcraft every piece from scratch in our making studio in the north of York.

Lydia throws each form on the wheel, while Zak glazes and fires each piece with precision and care. Every stage is slow and considered, shaped by hand, not machines, using UK-sourced clay, natural textures, and our own recycled materials.

What began as a shared love of making has grown into a full-time studio in York, where we create ceramics for chefs, collectors, and restaurants across the UK.

We make pottery to be lived with — functional, beautiful, and made to last.

Design + Commission

your own handmade ceramics for your business.

Every Rock Garden piece starts as a ball of clay, carefully shaped by hand on the wheel or formed using slab, pinch, or coil techniques. This means no two pieces are ever the same. The small differences in shape, texture, and glaze are what make them special.

Our shop is stocked with one-of-a-kind pieces, but if you’re looking for a matching set or a custom design, you’re welcome to get in touch.

We take on a limited number of commissions each season, so we’ll always check our availability and lead times before confirming your request.

Sustainability

Sustainability is part of our everyday studio practice.

We make ceramics primarily for chefs, and any pieces not suited to restaurant service are sold through our gallery shop as one-off, limited works. This allows us to explore new forms and glazes while ensuring nothing goes to waste.

All clay scraps are hand-recycled in the studio and used to create our sustainable collection, including slab-built bowls made from reclaimed clay.

Thoughtful making. Slow processes. No excess.
