Private Wheel Throwing Lesson

In this workshop (suitable for 1-2 people) you will have the chance to make your own handmade pots on the potter’s wheel. The lesson is 3 hours. Within this time you will receive clay balls of 500g. First our tutor will give you an introduction to ceramics and a demo of how to throw (make) a pot on the wheel. After which you will then have your own go!

The aim of this session is to finish with 2 pots. If your first two tries do not go to plan you will be able to have another go free of charge.

2-1 £80 per person

3+ £65 per person

All materials, tea, coffee and refreshments are included in the price.

  • Highly recommend! Me and my sisters and friend attended for a pottery throwing session and really enjoyed! Such a fun, relaxed atmosphere where Lydia let us get hands on with great tips and demonstrations. Bonus points also for the tea and croissants! We were so pleased with the results and would love to come back in the future to do some more. Also obsessed with all Rock Garden Ceramics and intend to slowly build up a collection!   • We took a pottery class at Rock Garden Studio. It's a great independent company based on the outskirts of York. We had a great afternoon, the team were very welcoming and gave clear instructions, so suitable for beginners! Great fun! We made two items each and then chose a glaze. They are ready for collection within about a month, but ours were ready in just over a week. We couldn't resist buying a tumbler whilst there too! Would highly recommend, we've already recommended to friends!

  • We came to do a couple of lessons in wheel throwing and glazing with Zak and Lydia over 2 weekends! To start the studio is such an incredible space, that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in. Zak and Lydia were the best hosts on both occasions and made sure we felt comfortable in their environment, showing us round the space, giving us safety demonstrations and also offering us snack and drinks. The lesson itself was fantastic, the small numbers in the class ensured that you had enough time to understand the craft and ask questions to support your learning. (The music was also a great bonus). We were able to have a go at throwing, and hand building. We learned all about glaze, the different types and ways to add colour to your pots I learned so much in both lessons and I am eager to see how my pots come out. Thank you for such a great couple of sessions & I am sure I want to continue to learn a lot more about ceramics now
